Gratitude ...Appreciation

Gratitude... How we all forget to be grateful for all the good in our lives. Instead we find ourselves complaining...worrying ...being fearful and just plain unhappy. Today my husband and i took our dog for a walk by the ocean. No one in sight just us...the entire beach was our own. As we walked along i started complaining...oh going on about all the wrongs and what i want out of life.

Imagine complaining when this is before you. My husband had enough of my aches and said to me " Pam , how can you complain when you live here? " Look where you are right now and your not having to go to a job right now!" Shame on me...I told him yes he was right and how can i complain when i get to walk this beach everyday.

How can i not have gratitude when i am healthy and just got word that a childhood friend is battling breast cancer? Shame on me.

How can i not appreciate the fact that i have been blessed with a wonderful healthy child and some do not? Shame on me.

I could go on and on with my list of gratitude and appreciation. I think we all can. We just have to learn to focus on the good things and not stare at that one pot hole in the road.

I am grateful that this little blog gets seen by a few friends and followers.. I am grateful for my pets...I am grateful for our new home...I am grateful that i have a supportive and loving husband.

But most of all i am grateful for another day !

Thanks for coming along on my journey i am truly grateful!

  1. Hi Pamela,
A very thoughtful post, perfect for WG - I will link you up so more will see this.
I think it's just human nature to always be striving for more, or for the next "good thing" or whatever. Don't beat yourself up about it, just recognize it when you're doing it and then stop and take a moment to remind yourself of all your blessings. I think that's really all we can do - at least that's what I tell myself when I'm feeling guilty!
    Have a great day!

  2. Hi Pam - I imagine you might be feeling the way I did when we moved here. The hardest thing for me has been living on a farm rather than in a neighbourhood. I've always enjoyed people so much and my suggestion would be to try to volunteer in the school your son goes to. Especially in a small community, by meeting other parents with children your son's age you will establish some connections. You might be doing that now - maybe I'm just reading between the lines but though I enjoyed the freedom of not working and being at home to settle in, the days were long and the arrival of the school bus at the end of the driveway in the afternoon was the happiest time of the day. I hope that things will even out and the trail will be less bumpy for you.

  3. Hi Pamela,
I am ashamed to admit it, but I have done the same thing. I live in an adorable little house in a wonderful and coveted part of town. May parents are still alive. My childhood friend had breast cancer recently too and she is well now. I have a darling little dog and friends like you, and yet I complain. My husband is a sweetheart like yours. Let's make a deal. Let's start gratitude journals and write down all of the good things in our lives instead of focusing on the bad.

When I log onto your site I see a beautiful, serene beach. A beach where you can refresh your soul. Take advantage of that and give your darling boy a big and one for your sweet hubby too!

    Lots of love,
    Susan and Bentley

  5. I admire your honesty, and after reading your posts, admire how brave you are to make these changes in your life. Give yourself a chance, change takes time...baby steps. It looks like a beautiful place, hope as you settle in, it will become HOME. Penny
